About Pancuronium Bromide
Muscle Relaxant
Uses
As an adjuvant in adult/child surgical anaesthesia to obtain relaxation so that operative manipulations are facilitated.
How to take it
Adults: Surgery: Initial dose 0.02-0.06 mg/kg, incremental dose 0.01-002 mg/kg. If the recommended doses of pancuronium are exceeded, this will increase the risk of prolonged neuromuscular block, difficulties with the reversal and marked side-effects. In heavy or obese patients calculation of the dosage of pancuronium on the basis of mg/kg leads to over dosing. Children: IV injection: Neonate, initially 100 mcg/kg, then 50 mcg/kg repeated as necessary, 1 mth-18 yr, initially 100 mcg/kg, then 20 mcg/kg repeated as necessary. IV: May be administered undiluted by rapid IV injection. Compatibility: Stable in D5NS, D5W, LR, NS. Stability: Refrigerate, however is stable for up to 6 months at room…
Side effects
Moderate rise of mean arterial pressure may occur. Decreases intraocular pressure and induces miosis.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Only be used in hospitals which possess suitable equipment and it should be administered by a fully qualified anaesthetist. Administration of depolarizing drugs following a non-depolarizing drug is not advisable. Do not mix with other solutions.
