What it is used for

Infections of respiratory and gastro-intestinal tracts and of skin and soft tissues, bones and joints. Septicaemia, endocarditis. Prophylaxis in surgery. UTI.

Dosage

ORAL: Adults: 1-2 gm daily in 2 or 4 divided doses; max 4 gm daily. Children: 25-50 mg/kg daily in 2 or 4 divided doses. Continue in all cases for 48-72 hr after patient is asymptomatic. Lower Respiratory Infection: Pneumonia: Adults: 500 mg every 6 hr or 1 gm every 12 hr. Children: > 9 mth: 25-50 mg/kg/day given every 6 hr or every 12 hr (up to adult dose). Otitis Media: Children: > 9 mth: 75-100 mg/kg/day given every 6 hr or every 12 hr. Max: 4 gm/day. Upper Respiratory Infection: Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis: Adults: 250 mg every 6 hr or 500 mg every 12 hr. Children: > 9 mth: 25-50 mg/kg/day…
