What it is used for

Serious infections due to amikacin sensitive gram negative organisms. Known or suspected staphylococcal infections.

Dosage

Adults: 15 mg/kg IM or IV daily in two divided doses for up to 10 days; total max 15 gm. Children: Neonates, initially 10 mg/kg then 15 mg/kg daily in two divided doses; others same as adult. Bone & Joint Infections: IM/IV: Adults, Children & Older Infants: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr or 5 mg/kg IM/IV every 8 hr. Max: 1.5 gm/day. Newborns: Loading Dose: 10 mg/kg. Maintenance: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr. Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: IV: Adults, Children & Older Infants: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr or 5 mg/kg IM/IV every 8 hr. Max: 1.5 gm/day.
