What it is used for

Vitamin E deficiency because of malabsorption in congenital or hereditary chronic cholestasis. Used in other indications with little scientific evidence of its value such as: intermittent claudication; as adjuvant in the treatment of fertility disturbances, such as habitual abortion & tendency to premature delivery.

Dosage

Adults: Malabsorption in cystic fibrosis: 100-200 mg daily. Malabsorption in abetalipoproteinaemia: 50-100 mg/kg daily. Children: Vitamin E deficiency: Orally. Neonate, 10 mg/kg once daily; 1 mth-18 yr, 2-10 mg/kg daily, up to 20 mg/kg has been used. Malabsorption in cystic fibrosis: Orally (with food and pancreatic enzymes). 1 mth-1 yr, 50 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary; 1-12 yr, 100 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary; 12-18 yr, 100-200 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary.
