About Dothiepin
Antidepressant
Uses
Depression, anxiety associated with depression.
How to take it
Adults: 75-150 mg daily in divided doses or as single dose in the evening. Elderly: Initially 50-75 mg daily increasing gradually if necessary under close supervision. Children: Not recommended.
Side effects
Anticholinergic effects (e.g. dry mouth, blurred vision), drowsiness, disturbances of lipid and potency, psychiatric effects, postural hypotension, arrhythmias, allergic skin reactions. Rarely, bone marrow depression, SIADH, hepatitis, jaundice, blood dyscrasias, convulsions.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Recent MI, heart block, arrhythmias, mania, severe hepatic impairment. Porphyria. Precautions: History of epilepsy, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, cardiovascular disorders. Suicidal tendencies. Anaesthesia. Elderly. Withdraw gradually.
Advice
Take with meals. Do not stop taking medication abruptly, gradually lower the dose and then stop. Contact prescriber if there is dizziness, blurred vision, fast heart rate, urinary retention, tremor, blood disorders, low blood pressure, sexual dysfunction or sweating.

Interactions with Dothiepin
With or within 14 days of MAOIs, other antidepressants, CNS depressants, antihypertensives, sympathomimetics, drugs affecting cardiac conduction (e.g. Sotalol), barbiturates.
