About Clotrimazole, Vaginal
Gynaecological Anti-infective
Uses
Candidal and mixed candidal/trichomonal vaginal infections.
How to take it
Cream: 1%: Adults: Insert contents of the applicator intravaginally at night for 7 consecutive nights. Cream/Gel 2%: Adults: Insert contents of the applicator intravaginally at night for 3 consecutive nights. Cream 10%: Adults: Insert contents of the applicator intravaginally at night as a single dose. Vaginal Tab: 100 mg: Adults: 1 tab inserted as single dose at night for 6 consecutive nights. Vaginal Tab: 500 mg: Adults: 1 tab inserted as single dose at night. Children: Below 12 yr, not recommended. Vaginal candidiasis in adolescents: Insert 5 gm of 10% vaginal cream, at night as a single dose; may be repeated once if necessary.
Side effects
Local mild burning or irritation. Hypersensitivity reactions, erythema or irritation.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Not rated. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Barrier contraceptives.
Advice
Before application, wash hands. Insert full applicator gently into vagina at bedtime and eject cream or insert tablet into vagina. Continue lying down for 30 min after administration. Notify prescriber about side effects such as vulvar itching or frequent urination or if condition remains same or if there is worsening of condition. Contact prescriber immediately if abdominal pain, fever or foul-smelling discharge occurs. Do not have intercourse during therapy.
