Uses

Serious clindamycin sensitive infections.

How to take it

ORAL: Adults: 150-450 mg six hourly. Children: Under 1 yr, 2.5-5 mL; 4-7 yr, 5-7.5 mL; 8-12 yr, 7.5-10 mL. All six hourly. Lower Respiratory Infection: Adults: 150-450 mg every 6 hr. Children: 8-20 mg/kg/day given in 3-4 doses. Bone Infection: Adults: 150-450 mg every 6 hr. Children: 8-20 mg/kg/day given in 3-4 doses. Skin Infection: Adults: 150-450 mg every 6 hr. Children: 8-20 mg/kg/day given in 3-4 doses. Bacterial Vaginosis: Pregnant/Non-Pregnant: 300 mg every 12 hr for 7 days. INJECTION: Adults: 600 mg-2.7 gm by IM, inj or IV infusion daily in divided doses. Children: Over 1 mth, 15-40 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Side effects

Gl disturbances including pseudomembranous colitis. Jaundice and blood disorders.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: No evidence of risk in humans. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Lincomycin sensitivity. Precautions: Discontinue use if persistent diarrhoea or colitis appear. Renal or hepatic impairment. Atopic patients.

Advice

Take with or without meals. To prevent abdominal discomfort, take with meals. Swallow whole with a glass of water when sitting in an upright position. Contact prescriber if there is dizziness, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting, inflammation in mouth, skin rash, redness, burning fever, chills, unusual bleeding or bruising, excessive fatigue, yellowing of eyes, yellowing of skin, dark stool, bloody or fatty stool, change in colour of urine, warmth/swelling/pain in ankles/feet/hands, difficulty in breathing or if there is worsening of condition or no improvement. Neuromuscular blocking agents, erythromycin, vit K antagonists, strong CYP3A4 inducers.
