Uses

Bacterial conjunctivitis.

How to take it

Eye Drop: Adults & Children: 1-2 drops 4-6 times for 72 hr. May or more frequently if required. May increase interval after 48 hr. Administration should be continued 48 hr after symptoms have disappeared. Eye Oint: Adults & Children: 1 application of oint three or four hourly for 48 hr or more frequently if required. Administration should be for 7 days and continued 48 hr after symptoms have disappeared. Max 3 wk.

Side effects

Local sensitivity reactions. Aplastic anaemia (rare).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Myelosuppression with previous chloramphenicol exposure. Personal or family history of blood dyscrasias. Precautions: Contact lenses.

Advice

Avoid prolonged use.
