About Streptomycin
Antituberculosis Preps
Uses
Treatment of tuberculosis only in conjunction with other anti-tuberculous drugs.
How to take it
Adults: IM: 15-30 mg/kg/day when used as a daily therapy. Max 1 gm. Children: IM: 20-40 mg/kg/day when used as a daily therapy. Max 1 gm/day. Reconstitute with 4.2, 3.2, or 1.8 mL of SWFI to yield solutions containing 200, 250, or 400 mg/mL, respectively. Administered by deep IM injection well within the body of a relatively large muscle. IV route is not recommended. Stability: Reconstituted solutions are stable for 1 week at room temperature and protect from light.
Side effects
Nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity. Precautions: Use with caution in patients with pre-existing vertigo, tinnitus, hearing impairment.
Advice
Therapy may last several months. Contact prescriber if there is vertigo, change in hearing, feeling of fullness in ears, loss of hearing, numbness, pain, tremors, weakness in muscles, change in gait, back pain, change in urinary pattern, chest pain, difficulty in breathing. Complete full course of therapy even if you feel better. Take sufficient amount of fluids (2-3 litres per day) to maintain hydration, unless restricted by the prescriber.

Depolarizing and non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents, amphotericin, loop diuretics.
