About Azilsartan Medoxomil

Angiotensin-II Antagonist

Uses

Treatment of hypertension.

How to take it

Adults: 80 mg once daily. 40 mg once daily in patients with volume depletion. Children: Not recommended.

Side effects

Orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhoea, nausea, decreased hemoglobin, decreased hematocrit, decreased RBC, muscle spasm, weakness, increased serum creatinine, cough.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Advice

Take with or without meals.

Interactions with Azilsartan Medoxomil

Amifostine, cyclosporine, lithium, NSAIDs, anti-inflammatory agents, K-sparing diuretics, rituximab, sodium phosphate, alfuzosin, aliskiren, diazoxide, eplerenone, MAO inhibitors, pentoxifylline, phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors, potassium salts, prostacyclin analogues, tolvaptan, trimethoprim, methylphenidate, rifamycin derivatives.
