Uses

Ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease. Rheumatoid arthritis not responding to NSAIDs.

How to take it

Ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease: Adults: 2-4 tab for 2-3 wk; maintenance, 4 tab daily in divided doses. Children: Under 2 yr, not recommended; others, 40-60 mg/kg body-wt. daily; maintenance, 20-30 mg/kg body-wt. daily. Rheumatoid arthritis: Adults: Initially 1 daily for 1 wk, increasing by 1 each wk to max 6 daily in divided doses. Children: Under 2 yr, not recommended. Treatment of acute attack of mild to moderate and severe ulcerative colitis, active Crohn’s disease: 2-12 yr, 10-15 mg/kg (max 1 gm) 4-6 times daily until remission occurs; increased to max 60 mg/kg daily in divided doses, if necessary; 12-18 yr, 1-2 gm 4 times daily until remission occurs. Side effects

Nausea, headache, rash, fever, loss of appetite.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Precautions: Reduce concurrent analgesics only after clinical response is seen. Perform regular blood checks. Impaired renal or hepatic function.
