About Indapamide

Diuretic

Uses

Hypertension.

How to take it

Adults: 1 tab in the morning. Children: Not recommended.

Side effects

Hypokalaemia, nausea, headache, fatigue, allergic manifestation, rash, photosensitivity.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides, severe renal or hepatic impairment. Hepatic encephalopathy, hypokalaemia. Precautions: Hyperuricaemia. Monitor plasma sodium and potassium. Hepatic or renal impairment. Hyperparathyroidism; discontinue if hypercalcaemia occurs.

Advice

Take with meals. Do not chew or crush tablets, swallow whole. Contact prescriber if there are changes in vision, swelling of ankles or hands, respiratory difficulty, unusual bleeding, chest pain, palpitations, numbness, tingling or muscle cramps. Include potassium-rich foods in diet such as bananas and orange juice. If you have diabetes, check blood glucose level regularly and inform prescriber about changes. Check weight regularly. Report prescriber if weight gain per week is more than 5 lb. Change position slowly. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing and eyewear, avoid direct sunlight to prevent photosensitivity.

Interactions with Indapamide

Lithium, non-arrhythmic drugs causing wave-burst arrhythmia (astemizole, bepridil, IV erythromycin, sulfopride). Drugs that prolong QT interval or cause torsade de pointes, other diuretics, ACE inhibitors, digoxin, systemic corticosteroids, amphotericin, laxative, NSAIDs, baclofen, metformin, TCADs, antipsychotics, iodinated contrast media, calcium salts, immunosuppressants.
