Uses

Infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.

How to take it

DS Tab: Adults: 1 tab twice daily. Tab: Adults: 2 tab twice daily. Susp: Adults: 20 mL twice daily. Children: 6 mth-5 yr, 5 mL; 5-12 yr, 10 mL. Both twice daily.

Side effects

Nausea. Glossitis, rash, hyperkalaemia. Blood dyscrasias, folate deficiency.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Neonates. Severe renal or hepatic insufficiency. Precautions: Renal impairment. Severe allergy or asthma, folate or G6PD deficiency. Porphyria. Perform monthly blood count during long term therapy or in elderly or folate deficient; consider folate supplement. Discontinue if rash develops. Maintain adequate urinary output. Monitor serum potassium and sodium in those at risk of hyperkalaemia or hyponatraemia. Elderly.

Folate inhibitors, anticoagulants, phenytoin, hypoglycaemics, cyclosporin, procainamide, amantadine, lamivudine, thiazide, pyrimethamine, digoxin.
