About Tenoxicam

Anti-rheumatic, Systemic

Uses

Osteoarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis.

How to take it

Adults: 1 tab/cap daily. Children: Not recommended.

Side effects

Drowsiness. GI upset, oedema, headache, rashes, blood dyscrasias, raised liver enzymes, visual disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, aplastic anaemia, haemolytic anaemia, hepatitis, jaundice, nephrotoxicity. Rarely, vesiculo-bullous reactions, vasculitis.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: History of, or active peptic ulcer, Gl bleeding, gastritis. Aspirin/anti-inflammatory induced allergy. Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Precautions: Hepatic, renal or cardiac impairment (monitor on long term therapy), mild to moderate heart failure, hypertension, asthma, surgery. Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration. Elderly.

Advice

Take with or immediately after meals. Do not break or crush tablets, swallow whole. Contact prescriber if there is difficulty in breathing, dark stools, swelling on face/lips/tongue, blood in vomit, severe abdominal pain, itchy, skin rash. Avoid rich and spicy meals. Keep regular appointments with prescriber.

Interactions with Tenoxicam

Alcohol, CNS depressants, anticoagulants, other NSAIDs, oral hypoglycaemics, antihypertensives, digoxin, cyclosporin, quinolones, diuretics, methotrexate, mifepristone, lithium, corticosteroids.
