Uses

Prophylaxis of organ rejection in renal and heart allograft recipients and for the treatment of corticoids-resistant allograft rejection in renal transplantation. Tolerability is increased by pretreatment with an intravenous corticosteroid and antihistamine; an antipyretic drug such as paracetamol may also be beneficial.

How to take it

Heart transplantation: By I/V Inf: Over at least 6 hr,1 - 2.5 mg/kg daily for 3 - 5 days. Renal transplantation: By I/V Inf: Over at least 6 hr, 1 - 1.5 mg/kg daily for 3- 9 days. Corticosteroid resistance renal graft rejection: By I/V Inf: Over at least 6 hr, 1.5 mg/kg daily for 7 - 14 days. The recommended route of administration is IV infusion using a high-flow vein. Anti-thymocyte globulin should be infused over a minimum of 6 hours for the first infusion and over at least 4 hours on subsequent days of therapy. Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, dysphagia, diarrhoea, hypotension, infusion related reaction, serum sickness, fever, shivering, increased susceptibility to infection, increased susceptibility to malignancy, lymphopaenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, myalgia, pruritus, rash.
