Levobunolol

Miotic, Antiglaucoma Preps · Beta-blocker

Indications

For the control of intraocular pressure in chronic open angle glaucoma & ocular hypertension.

Dosage

Adults: Usual: (0.5%) drops once daily. (0.25%) drops twice daily. Severe/Uncontrolled: (0.5%) 1-2 drops twice daily. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Irritation, headache, dizziness, systemic beta- blocking effects, blepharitis, conjunctivitis.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchospasm, including bronchial asthma, cardiogenic shock, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, sino-atrial block, uncontrolled congestive heart failure. Hypersensitivity to any of the contents. Precautions: As with other topically applied ophthalmic drugs, may be absorbed systemically. Hyperthyroidism, Prinzmetal's angina, depression, respiratory impairment, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, severe circulatory disorders, hypotension, metabolic acidosis, untreated phaeochromocytoma. History of cardiac disease; monitor pulse rate. Renal or hepatic impairment. Chronic eye inflammation, corneal disease. Remove soft contact lenses; wait 15 min before reinserting.

Reserpine, systemic beta-blockers.

Onset: 1 hr. Duration: 24 hrs. Absorption: Systemic absorption also occurs. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 20 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 30 mins. Time to peak effect: 2-6 hrs.
