Uses

Megaloblastic and macrocytic anaemia due to folic acid deficiency, dietary supplement to prevent neural tube defects.

How to take it

Adults: 5 mg daily for 4 mth. Maintenance: 5 mg every 1 to 7 days depending on underlying disease. Children: Under 1 yr: 0.5 mg/kg/daily. Over 1 yr: same as adult.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Controlled studies shown no risk. Lactation: May be used in breast feeding. Contraindications: Megaloblastic anaemia due to Vit B.12 deficiency.
