About Cyclopentolate
Mydriatic, Cycloplegic
Uses
Refraction and uveitis.
How to take it
Refraction: Adults: 1 drop repeated 15 min later if necessary. Children: >3 mth: 1 drop. Uveitis: Adults: 1 or 2 drops soln. as required. Children: >3 mth: 1 or 2 drops as required.
Side effects
Systemic anticholinergic effects (e.g., dry mouth, flushing, dry skin, tachycardia, urinary retention). Transient stinging, raised intra-ocular pressure. Local irritation, hyperaemia, oedema, conjunctivitis after prolonged use.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Narrow angle glaucoma. Paralytic ileus, children with organic brain syndrome, neonates. Soft contact lenses. Precautions: Inflamed eyes. Elderly or debilitated. Prostatic hypertrophy, coronary insufficiency, heart failure.
