About Pheniramine Maleate, Inj/Oral
Antihistamine, Systemic
Uses
Allergic condition (hypersensitivity reactions) such as: hay fever (pollinosis) with attacks of sneezing, itching and running of the nose inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye. Urticaria and eczema (including neurodermatitis) with pruritus and reddening and swelling of the skin.
How to take it
TABLET 25/50 mg: Adults: Initially 1/2-1 tab 2-3 times daily. If necessary 1 tab 3 times daily from the 2nd day of treatment onwards. RETARD TABLET 75 mg: Adults: 1 tab after supper. Only in very resistant cases add 1 tab after breakfast. SYRUP: Adults: 1-2 measuring spoonful 2-3 times daily. Children: 1-3 yr, 1/2 spoonful 2-3 times daily. 4-12 yr, 1 measuring spoonful 2-3 times daily. INJECTION: According to the severity of cases. Adults: 1/2-1 amp IV(1 mL/min) or IM once or twice a day. Children: 6 mth-3 yr, 0.4-1 mL IM once or twice a day. Over 4 yr, 0.8-2 mL IM once or twice daily.
Side effects
Dryness of mouth, urine retention, increase in intraocular pressure, gastrointestinal upset, palpitation after high doses, hallucination, agitation and disorientation.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity of pheniramine/prostatic hypertrophy and a tendency towards residual urine formation and pregnancy. Treatment of patients with narrow angle glaucoma under ophthalmologists supervision only. Patients with alertness demanding activities be cautious of possible drowsiness.
