About Ceforanide

Cephalosporin

Uses

Infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, bone, joint, soft tissues and skin.

How to take it

Adults: 1-2 gm IV or IM every 12 hr; For surgical prophylaxis, 1-2 gm IV one hr before surgery. Children: 20 mg/kg daily in two divided doses. The dosage may be administered by IM at concentration of 250 mg/mL or direct IV push over 3 to 5 min at a concentration of 49 mg/mL or may be given by intravenous infusions (continuous or intermittent) over 30 min.

Side effects

Diarrhoea, rash, decreased neutrophils, haemoglobin, haematocrit, eosinophilia, increased transaminases.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Penicillin sensitivity. Severe renal failure.
