Uses
Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms.
How to take it
Adults & Children: Eye Drop: 1 drop in the affected eye three times daily for 7 days. Continue treatment for 2-3 days after infection clears, review if no improvement within 5 days. Eye Oint: 2-3 times/day or as prescribed by physician.
Side effects
Conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye, keratitis; ocular discomfort, hyperaemia, pain & pruritus; sub-conjunctival haemorrhage, tearing. Dysgeusia.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to quinolones. Contact lenses. Precautions: Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Advice
Remove contact lenses and wash hands properly before use. Sit or lie down to instill. Open eye, look at ceiling, instill solution into the eye. For ointment, pull lower lid down slowly, instill thin layer of ointment inside lid. Close eye and roll eye in all directions. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye. Blurred vision, dryness in eyes or stinging may occur but its temporary. In case of allergic reaction or rash, discontinue medication and inform prescriber immediately. Report constant burning, pain; changes in vision; itching, swelling in eyes or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Avoid prolonged use.
