Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Inhalants

Uses

Airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm or for the treatment of asthma.

How to take it

Adults: 1 inhalation once daily by the orally inhaled route only, should be taken at the same time every day.

Side effects

Pharyngitis, sinusitis, lower RTI, constipation, diarrhoea, pain in extremity, muscle spasms, neck pain and chest pain.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Contraindications: Asthma. Acute episodes of bronchospasm or acutely deteriorating COPD. Precautions: CV disease (e.g. cardiac insufficiency, arrhythmias, hypertension), diabetes mellitus, narrow-angle glaucoma, hypokalaemia, prostatic hyperplasia/bladder neck obstruction, seizure disorders, thyrotoxicosis. Pregnancy. Lactation.

Advice

Contact prescriber if you experience any of these symptoms: Palpitations, chest pain, rapid heart rate, tremor, nervousness, eye pain/discomfort, blurred vision, visual halos, coloured images in association with red eyes from conjunctival congestion and corneal edema, difficulty passing urine, painful urination etc.

Interactions with Umeclidinium Bromide and Vilanterol Trifenatate

Long-acting Beta2-agonists. Diuretics. Anticholinergics. MAOIs. Tricyclic antidepressants. Strong CYP450 3A4 inhibitors (e.g. Ketoconazole).
