About Miconazole, Vaginal
Gynaecological Anti-infective
Uses
Vulvo-vaginal candidiasis; balanitis; treatment of partner to prevent re-infection.
How to take it
Cream: Adults: 1 applicatorful (5 gm) of cream or 1 suppository of 100 mg inserted intravaginally each night (cream for 10-14 consecutive days or twice daily for 7 days/suppos 100 mg for 7 days); course can be repeated if necessary. Children: Not recommended. Ovule: Adults: A concentrated ovule is used during the day or at night as a single dose. A regular strength ovule is administered once daily at bedtime for 3 days. A lower strength ovule is administered once daily at bedtime for 7 days.
Side effects
Local mild burning or irritation. Rash, dysmenorrhoea.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Barrier contraceptives.
Advice
Before application, wash and dry area. Consult prescriber before using for the first time for a vaginal yeast infection. Insert deep into the vagina. Avoid intercourse during treatment. During therapy, condoms and diaphragms might not be effective. Avoid using douches, tampons, spermicides or other vaginal products during therapy.

Mizolastine, ergot alkaloids, cilostazol, disopyramide, drugs that prolong QT interval, midazolam, pimozide, statins, phenytoin, saquinavir, vinca alkaloids, busulfan, docetaxel, calcium channel blockers, oral anticoagulants, protease inhibitors, cyclosporin, tacrolimus, sirolimus, oral hypoglycaemics, carbamazepine, alfentanil, buspirone, sildenafil, alprazolam, rifabutin, methylprednisolone, reboxetine.
