Uses
Treatment of symptomatic orthostatic hypotension.
How to take it
ORAL: Adults: 10 mg three times per day, during daytime hr (every 3-4 hr), when patient is upright. Max 40 mg per day. Children: Not recommended. INJECTION: Adults: Similar as oral dose. Administered via slow IV injection.
Side effects
Supine hypertension, pilo-erection, pruritus, urinary urgency, retention or polyuria, dysuria, paresthesia, chills, pain, rash, abdominal pain, anxiety, canker sore, nausea, insomnia, ICP increased.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Severe organic heart disease, urinary retention, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, persistent and significant supine hypertension. Precautions: (US boxed Warning): Indicated for patients for whom orthostatic hypotension significantly impairs their daily life, despite standard clinical care. May cause hypertension. Use is not recommended with supine hypertension. Use with caution in diabetes. Visual problems, urinary retention or hepatic dysfunction, monitor renal and hepatic function prior to and periodically during therapy, safety and efficacy have not been established in children.
Advice
Take medicine while sitting upright. Do not take last dose after evening meal or within 4 hours of going to bed or when lying down. Contact prescriber if there is headache, increased dizziness, changes in vision, skin rash, severe gastric upset or pain, urine retention, muscle weakness or pain. Do not lie in a flat position in bed at any time. Rise head of bed when lying straight. Empty bladder before taking medication because there may be difficulty in urination after taking this medication.

Atomoxetine, beta-blockers, Ca++ Channel blockers, cardiac glycosides, MAO inhibitors, TCADs, cannabinoids, lobenguane.
