Uses

Prevention and treatment of plasmodium falciparum malaria.

How to take it

TABLETS: Prophylaxis: Adults: Non-immune subjects, 1 tab as a single dose once in a wk; Semi-immune subjects, 2-3 tab once every four wk. Children: Under 4 yr, quarter adult dose; 4-8 yr, half adult dose; 9-14 yr, three-quarters adult dose. The mentioned prophylactic dose is once every two wk for non-immune subjects while once every four wk for semi-immune subjects. Treatment: Adults: Over 14 yr, 2-3 tab as a single dose. Children: Under 4 yr, 1/2 tab; 4-8 yr, 1 tab; 9-14 yr, 2 tab. All as a single dose. SUSPENSION: Curative dose: Adults: 15 mL in single dose. Children: Single dose: Under 4 yr, 2.5 mL; 4-6 yr, 5 mL; 7-9 yr, 7.5 mL; 10- 14 yr, 10 mL. Prophylactic dose: Adults: Non-immune…

Side effects

Skin rash (discontinue immediately). Pharyngitis or pruritus occurs. Gl distress, skin rashes, blood dyscrasias. Rarely erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyell's syndrome.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Sulphonamide sensitivity. Severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Blood dyscrasias. Neonates. Precautions: Perform regular blood counts during long-term prophylaxis. Avoid excess sun.
