Indications

Acne vulgaris in which comedones, papules and pustules predominate.

Dosage

Adults: Apply once or twice daily for minimum 8 wk. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Local irritation.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Contraindications: Eczematous skin, cuts, abrasions. Avoid eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Precautions: Avoid excessive sunlight and use of U-V lamp. Pregnancy.

Interactions

Keratolytics.

Advice to Patient

Before application, wash hands thoroughly. Contact prescriber and discontinue treatment if there is rash, skin irritation, scaling, redness, or excessive dryness. Avoid washing face more than 2-3 times a day. Avoid contact with areas near mouth, nose, eyes or open wounds. During treatment, do not use products that contain alcohol or irritative chemicals. Do not use more than recommended by prescriber. Do not take excessive amount of vitamin A. Full effects of medicine may take few weeks to appear. Avoid direct sunlight. Wear sunscreen, eyewear and protective clothing to prevent photosensitivity. Gel is flammable. Keep gel away from flame and avoid smoking during therapy.

Absorption: Systemic absorption is minimal after topical use (1%-31%). Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: Terminal: 0.5-2 hrs. Excretion: Urine. Faeces.
