Travoprost and Timolol

Miotic, Antiglaucoma Preps · Beta-blocker/Prostaglandin

Indications

Ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma insufficiently responsive to ß-Blockers or prostaglandin analogues alone.

Dosage

Adults: 1 drop into affected eye(s) once daily in the morning or evening. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Ocular hyperaemia, pain and irritation, photophobia, visual disturbance, nervousness, dizziness, headache, changes in BP and heart rate, bronchospasm, rash, eye lash growth, darkening of periorbital skin and eyelids.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Asthma or history of asthma. Severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, severe allergic rhinitis, bronchial hyper reactivity, corneal dystrophy. Ensure adequate contraception in women of child bearing potential. Precautions: Uncontrolled cardiac failure, history of severe cardiac disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, unstable angina, severe circulatory disorders, hypotension, aphakia, pseudophakia in patients with torn posterior lens capsule, or anterior chamber lenses, risk factors for cystoids macular oedema, or iritis/uveitis. Inflammatory, neovascular, congenital, pigmentary or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. Warn patient of possible change in eye colour. Interactions

Calcium-channel blockers, guanethidine, ß-Blockers, antiarrhythmics, digitalis glycosides, parasympathomimetics, clonidine.

Advice to Patient

Wash hands properly before use. Remove contact lenses before use. Wait 15 minutes before reinserting. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops or apply thin layer inside lower eyelid. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye for 30 seconds. Contact prescriber if there is eye damage, eye infection, changes in vision, loss of vision, no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Do not share medication with anyone else. Wait 5 minutes before instilling any other medication. If there is accidental contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water.
