Indications

Ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Dosage

Adults: 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Mild hyperaemia, pain and irritation, dry eye, foreign body sensation, iris discolouration, photophobia, keratitis, flare headache, eye pruritus. Reports of eyelash growth and discolouration, darkening of periorbital skin and eyelids.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Warn patient of possible change in eye colour. Avoid skin contact. Monitor eye condition closely particularly with dry eyes or if cornea is compromised. Contraception must be used. Aphakia, pseudophakia in patients with torn posterior lens capsule or anterior chamber lenses, risk factors for cystoid macular oedema or iritis/uveitis. Active intraocular inflammation, thyroid eye disease. Neovascular, angle closure, congenital, pigmentary or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. Remove contact lenses; wait 15 min before inserting.

Interactions

Leave interval of 5 min, before using other eye preps and 15 min, before inserting contact lenses.

Advice to Patient

Wash hands properly before use. Remove contact lenses before use. Wait 15 minutes before reinserting. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops or apply thin layer inside lower eyelid. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye for 30 seconds. Contact prescriber if there is eye damage, eye infection, changes in vision, loss of vision, no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Do not share medication with anyone else. Wait 5 minutes before instilling any other medication. If there is accidental contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water.

Onset: 2 hrs. Duration: = 24 hrs. Absorption: Systemically absorbed through the cornea. Metabolism: Hydrolyzed by esterases in the cornea. Half-life elimination: 1.5 hrs (in aqueous fluid). Terminal: 45 mins. Time to peak, plasma: 30 mins. Excretion: Urine (mainly). Faeces.
