Indications
Indicated for replacement therapy in male for conditions associated with a deficiency or absence of endogenous testosterone: Primary hypogonadism (congenital or acquired); Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (congenital or acquired).
Dosage
Adults: Recommended starting dose is 5 gm for adult males, applied topically once daily. Adjust dose from 5 gm-7.5 gm and from 7.5 mg-10 gm; if serum testosterone level below normal range.
Adverse Effects
Acne, application site reaction, abnormal lab tests, gynaecomastia and prostatic disorders.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Men with carcinoma of breast or prostate. Pregnancy and lactation. Precautions: Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treated with androgens are at an increased risk for worsening of signs and symptoms of BPH. Not indicated for use in women. Exogenous administration of androgens may lead to azoospermia. Gynaecomastia may develop. Monitor serum testosterone, prostatic specific antigen, hemoglobin, hematocrit, liver function test and lipid levels periodically.
