Indications

Erectile dysfunction (ED). Signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Erectile dysfunction and signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (ED/BPH).

Dosage

Adults: Erectile dysfunction (ED): 10 mg taken at least 30 min prior to sexual activity. Increase to 20 mg or decrease to 5 mg as necessary. Max Dose: one dose daily. Signs and symptoms benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): 5 mg taken once daily at approximately same time every day. Erectile dysfunction and signs and symptoms benign prostatic hyperplasia (ED/BPH): 5 mg taken once daily at approximately same time every day. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Headache, flushing, dizziness, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, nausea, serious cardiovascular events have been reported.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Contraindications: Pre-existing cardiac conditions where sexual activity inadvisable, non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy, severe hepatic impairment, ESRD requiring dialysis, hypotension, recent stroke or MI, hereditary degenerative retinal disorders. Precautions: Cardiovascular disease, left ventricular outflow obstruction, severe renal impairment, mild to moderate hepatic impairment, abnormal penile anatomy or predisposition to priapism including sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma or leukaemia. Active peptic ulcer, bleeding disorders, risk factors for QTc prolongation. Advise patients to report any changes in vision immediately. Elderly.

Interactions

Nitrates, other erectile dysfunction agents, indinavir, ritonavir, other CYP3A4 inhibitors, alpha blockers, nicorandil.

Advice to Patient

Take with or without meals. Contact prescriber if erection remains for more than 4 hours or if there is severe penile pain. Limit alcohol intake during therapy.
