Indications
Constipation.
Dosage
Initial dose should be low then gradually increased. Adults: 15-30 mg, usually at night, initial dose should be low then gradually increased. Children: 1 mth-4 yr, 2.5-10 mL once daily, adjusted according to response; 4-18 yr, 2.5-10 mL once daily, adjusted according to response.
Adverse Effects
Colic or cramps, diarrhoea, reversible melanosis coli, atonic non-functioning colon.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Intestinal obstruction, undiagnosed abdominal symptoms. Precautions: Prolong use in inflammatory bowel disease may interfere with diagnostic test.
