Indications

Impetigo due to Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible isolates only) or Streptococcus pyogenes.

Dosage

Adults and Children =9 months: Apply a thin layer to the affected area (up to 100 cm2 in total area in adults or 2% total BSA in children) twice daily for 5 days. <9 months: Not recommended. The treated area may be covered with a sterile bandage or guaze dressing if required. Re-evaluate treatment if there is no response after 3 days.

Adverse Effects

Application site irritation including pain, pruritus and erythema.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: May be used in breast feeding.

Advice to Patient

Wash hands after application. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth and genital areas.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption: Topical: Only very small amounts are absorbed into the systemic circulation. Metabolism: Hepatic.
