Indications
Acute diarrhoea.
Dosage
CAP: Adults: Initially 100 mg, followed by 100 mg three times daily until two normal stools. Max: 7 days. Children: Not recommended. SUSP: Children: Under 3 months: Not recommended. Over 3 months and <9 kg: 1 sachet of 10 mg three times daily. 9-13 kg: 2 sachets of 10 mg three times daily. 13-27 kg: 1 sachet of 30 mg three times daily. >27 kg: 2 sachets of 30 mg three times daily. Granules can be added to food or dispersed in water. Continue until two normal stools. Max: 7 days.
Adverse Effects
Headache.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Renal or hepatic impairment in children. Precautions: Bloody or purulent stools and fever, chronic or antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Renal or hepatic impairment. Prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting.

Onset: Rapid. Absorption: Oral: Rapidly absorbed. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 3 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 60 mins. Excretion: Urine (81.4%). Faeces (8%).
