Indications
Non-infected inflammatory ocular conditions.
Dosage
DROP: Adults & Children: Over 2 yr: 1 or 2 drops 2-4 times daily. During the first 48 hr, 2 drops every hr if necessary. OINT: Adults & Children: Apply once daily at night.
Adverse Effects
Corneal thinning, cataract, rise in intra-ocular pressure; viral, fungal or secondary bacterial infections.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Contraindications: Viral, fungal, tuberculous or purulent infections, dendritic ulcer. Soft contact lenses. Glaucoma. Precautions: Prolonged use, infants. Risk of visual disturbances.
Advice to Patient
Wash hands properly before use. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops inside lower eyelid. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye for 30 seconds. Contact prescriber if there is eye pain, changes in vision, no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Avoid prolonged use. Do not use any other eye preparation for atleast 10 minutes. Do not share medication with anyone else. Wear sunglasses when in sunlight to prevent photosensitivity.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Absorbed through aqueous humor. Systemic absorption rarely occurs. Metabolism: Locally metabolized. Small amount absorbed into systemic circulation is metabolized via hepatic route. Half-life elimination: 3-4 hrs. Excretion: Urine (mainly). Faeces.
