Indications
For relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses (medium potency topical corticosteroid).
Dosage
Adults & Children: Apply one to two times daily.
Adverse Effects
Burning, itching, irritation, erythema, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, pruritus, acneiform eruptions, hypo-pigmentation, peri-oral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, numbness of fingers, stinging and cracking/tightening of skin, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, malaria, telangiectasia.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Monotherapy in primary bacterial infections such as impetigo, paronychia, erysipelas, cellulitis, angular cheilitis, erythrasma, treatment of rosacea, peri-oral dermatitis or acne; use on face, groin or axilla (very high or high potency agents). Precautions: Systemic effects usually result from use of more potent steroids, use over large surface area and the addition of occlusive dressings. If local irritation develops discontinue use. Skin atrophy may be clinically significant after prolong use of potent steroids or use on areas with higher percutaneous absorption. Do not use steroid as sole therapy in psoriasis. Do not use potent steroids to treat diaper dermatoses in infants.
Advice to Patient
Wash hands before use. Clean and dry the affected area, apply a small amount of medication in a thin layer on the skin and rub in gently. Wash your hands after use, unless product is being used to treat the hands. Contact prescriber if condition does not improve after 2 weeks or remains same. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless recommended. If used in the diaper area on an infant, do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants. Do not use for more than prescribed period of time. Avoid contact of medication with eyes, nose and mouth. In case of contact, wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. Do not miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not apply double dose.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Dependent on nature of skin at application; occlusion and inflammation may increase absorption. Metabolism: Skin (primarily). The amount absorbed into systemic circulation is metabolized hepatically. Excretion: Urine (mainly). Faeces (to a lesser extent).
