Pipemidic Acid

Urinary Anti-infective · Antibacterial

Indications

Acute painful infections of the genito-urinary tract (cystitis, pyelitis, cystopyelitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, postpartum pyelitis, etc.) caused by susceptible organism which are sensitive to pipemidic acid.

Dosage

Adults: 400 mg twice daily at 12 hr intervals, after meals, for at least 10 days. Children: 14 yr and older, same as adults; Below 14 yr, not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Nausea and abdominal pain.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Precautions: While taking pipemidic acid it is advisable not to expose oneself for longer periods to the sun as there is a risk of photosensitivity with a possible consequent bullous dermatitis.

Advice to Patient

Take after meals.
