Indications
Burning, pain in urinary tract.
Dosage
Adults: 2 tab 3 times daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
GI upset, headache, rashes, hepatotoxicity, haemolytic anaemia, acute renal failure, cystic deposit formation, abnormal colouration of body tissues or fluids.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Renal impairment or severe hepatitis. Discontinue if the skin or sclerae become discoloured. Precautions: Patient with G6PD deficiency. Staining of contact lenses may occur.
Advice to Patient
Take after meals. Take with meals if GI discomfort occurs. Contact prescriber if there is dizziness, constant headache, stomach cramps. This medication can stain fabric because it causes change in colour of urine such as orange or yellow. Other body fluids, such as tears colour is also changed. Do not wear contact lenses during therapy because they may become stained. Diabetes patients should take serum glucose tests to check glucose level. This medication interferes with urine testing.
