Indications
Peripheral & cerebrovascular disease associated with impaired capillary circulation, disease associated with impaired renal circulation.
Dosage
Adults: ORAL: Initially 2 tab thrice daily, decreased to 1 tab thrice daily. INJECTION: 100-200 mg IV or 100-300 mg by IV infusion diluted in 100-500 mL saline solution 1-2 times daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Nausea, gastrointestinal distress, pruritus, urticaria, vertigo, flushes.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Acute myocardial infarction, massive bleeding, cerebral haemorrhage, severe arrhythmias, extensive retinal haemorrhage. Precautions: Severe coronary artery disease, hypotension, renal or hepatic impairment.
Interactions
NSAIDs, cimetidine, ketorolac, antiplatelets, antihypertensives.
Advice to Patient
Take with meals. Do not chew, crush or break tablets, swallow whole. Contact prescriber if there is chest pain; swelling of lips, mouth or tongue; constant headache; difficulty in respiration; rash; unrelieved nausea or vomiting. Avoid smoking during therapy.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Readily absorbed from the GI tract. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 0.4-0.8 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 1 hr. Excretion: Urine (mainly). Faeces (<4%).
