Indications

Relief of pain and reduction of fever and inflammation.

Dosage

Tab: Adults and Children =12 yr: 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hr, up to a max of 8 tabs in 24 hr. Children <12 yr: Not recommended. Susp: Adults & children over 12 yrs: 5-10 mL four hourly. Maximum 30 mL/24 hrs. Children: Take 3-4 times daily. 2-5 yrs: 5 mL. 6-12 yrs: 5-10 mL. Do not exceed recommended dose. INJ: IV: Adults: <50 kg: 1.5 mL/kg via infusion over 15 mins, every 6 hrs, as necessary. Max single dose: 75 mL. Max daily dose: 300 mL. =50 kg: 100 mL via infusion over 15 mins every 6 hrs, as necessary. Max daily dose: 400 mL daily. Elderly: Start with the lowest dose. Children: Not recommended.

Administration

Administer as a 15-minute intravenous infusion. Use aseptic technique when preparing and administering the medication. The vial stopper should be perforated at the indicated spot, typically with a 0.8 mm (21 gauge) needle, to withdraw or administer the solution. If less than a full vial is required (e.g., for patients weighing less than 50 kg), infuse the correct amount, and discard the remaining solution. The product contains no antimicrobial preservative and is for single use only. Use a dedicated infusion line for the infusion; do not run secondary infusions on the same line.

Adverse Effects

Skin rashes, itching, hypersensitivity, dizziness, fatigue, stomach pain, nausea, GI bleeding, dyspepsia, heartburn.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended.

Interactions

Anticoagulants including warfarin, metoclopramide, chloramphenicol, propantheline, cholestyramine, probenecid, zidovudine, co-trimoxazole, lithium, anti-hypertensives, diuretics, methotrexate, corticosteroids.

Advice to Patient

Take with meals. Swallow with a glass of water. Keep a gap of 6 hours between doses. Contact prescriber if there is severe indigestion, heartburn, severe stomach pain, blood in vomit, dark stools, severe headache, fever, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face/tongue/throat, diarrhoea.
