Indications
Oesophageal reflux disease, reflux oesophagitis. Long-term management of acid-reflux disease. Duodenal and benign gastric ulcers including those complicating NSAID therapy. Duodenal ulcers associated with H. pylori. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anaesthesia.
Dosage
The dosage mentioned are calculated on the basis of Omeprazole in the product contents. Reflux oesophagitis: Adults: 20 mg once daily for 4 wk, extend for a further 4-8 wk if not fully healed. Refractory cases, 40 mg once daily. Acid-reflux disease: Adults: Long-term management, 10 mg once daily, increasing to 20 mg once daily if symptoms return. Duodenal ulcer: Adults: 20 mg once daily for 4 wk. Severe cases, increase to 40 mg once daily. Prevention of relapse, 20 mg once daily, dose may range between 10 mg to 40 mg daily. DU with H. pylori: Adults: 40 mg daily with amoxicillin 1.5-2 gm daily for 2 wk. Gastric ulcer: Adults: 20 mg once daily for 8 wk. Severe cases, increase to 40 mg once daily. Adverse Effects
Headache, GI upset, skin rashes, paraesthesia, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia, arthralgia, myalgia. Increased risk of GI infections. Increase in liver enzymes.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Exclude malignancy before treatment. Hepatic impairment. Monitor serum B12 in severely ill children on long term treatment.
Interactions
Diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin, digoxin, ketoconazole, itraconazole.

MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE: Onset of action: 0.5-3 hrs. Duration: Variable. Absorption: About 15%-50% is absorbed very slowly through the small intestine. Metabolism: Does not undergo metabolism.
