Nimesulide
Anti-rheumatic, Systemic · Cox-2 inhibitor
Indications
Painful inflammatory conditions including those associated with osteoarthritis, postoperative trauma, sports injuries, ear, nose and throat disorders, dental surgery, bursitis/tendinitis, thrombophlebitis, pharyngitis.
Dosage
Adults: 100 mg twice daily. Children: Not recommended.
Adverse Effects
Gastrointestinal toxicity.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Active peptic ulcer disease, moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Precautions: Patients with renal impairment (particularly elderly patients), congestive heart failure or cirrhosis or those patients who are volume or salt depleted.
Advice to Patient
Take after meals. Contact prescriber if there is heartburn, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, blood in urine, decrease in urination.

Absorption: Rapidly absorbed following oral administration. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: Terminal: 4 hrs. Excretion: Urine (50%). Faeces (29%).
