Nandrolone Decanoate

Indications

Inj 25 mg: As an adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathological conditions characterised by negative nitrogen balance e.g. during chronic debilitating disease, during prolonged glucocorticoid therapy, during radio therapy and after major surgery and trauma.

Dosage

Adults: 25-50 mg every 3 wk. Anaemia of chronic renal failure: Male: 200 mg every wk. Female: 100 mg every wk. Aplastic anaemia: 50-150 mg every wk. Anaemia due to cytotoxic therapy: 200 mg every wk starting 2 wk prior to the course of cytotoxic therapy, this treatment should be continued throughout the cytotoxic therapy and thereafter during the recovery period until the blood count has returned to normal.

Adverse Effects

High dosages, prolonged treatment and/or too frequent administration may cause virilization in sensitive women, amenorrhoea. Inhibition of spermatogenesis, premature epiphyseal closure and water salt retention in men.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Contraindications: Pregnancy, known or suspected prostatic carcinoma or mammary carcinoma in males. Precautions: If signs of virilization develop, discontinuation of treatment should be considered. Anabolic steroids may occasionally induce salt and fluid retention.

Interactions

Anticoagulants, liver enzyme inducers, Heparin.
