Non-narcotic Analgesic · Gabapentinoids

Indications

Peripheral neuropathic pain in adults.

Dosage

Adults: Initially, 5 mg twice daily. Increase the dose by 5 mg/dosing with an interval of at least 1 wk up to 15 mg twice daily. Dose may be increased or decreased between 10 mg and 15 mg twice daily, based on patient’s age or symptoms. Max: 15 mg twice daily. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Somnolence, dizziness, peripheral oedema, weight gain.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Positive evidence of risk: Use only when no safer alternative exists for a serious problem. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Renal impairment. Elderly. Do not stop the medication abruptly, gradually decrease the dose and then stop.

Interactions

Probenecid. Cimetidine. Lorazepam.

Advice to Patient

Take with or without meals. Do not drive vehicles, operate machinery or carry out tasks that require mental alertness during treatment.

Absorption: Rapid. Metabolism: Hepatic (13-20%). Renal. Half-life elimination: 2-3 hrs. Time to peak: 1 hr. Excretion: Urine (99%). Faeces (1%).
