Indications

Deodorisation of malodorous fungating tumours, gravitational decubitus ulcers, bacterial vaginosis.

Dosage

Gel: Adults: Apply twice daily, or insert 5 gm applicatorful at night for 5 nights. Children: Not recommended. Tab/Suppos: Adults: Insert 1 tab daily at night for 5 consecutive nights. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Local irritation, candidiasis, abnormal discharge, pelvic discomfort.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: Not recommended during menstruation.

Interactions

Alcohol, anticoagulants, phenobarbital, phenytoin, lithium.

Advice to Patient

Before and after application, wash hands thoroughly. For dissolving vaginal tablets run tap water over uncovered tablet for a few seconds before insertion. Male sexual partners of patients suffering from trichomoniasis should wear protection during her treatment and they may need treatment themselves to prevent reinfection. Follow up with prescriber to make sure infection is gone.

Absorption: Pessary: Poor. Metabolism: Hepatic. Bioavailability: Pessary: 20%-25%. Intravaginal gel: 56%. Half-life elimination: 8 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: Approx. 9.5 hrs (Range: 4-17 hrs). Excretion: Urine (majorly). Faeces (small amount).

Unlicensed Use

Children: Bacterial vaginosis in adolescents: Insert 5 gm of 0.75% gel at night for 5 nights.
