Indications

Therapy of plasmodium falciparum malaria resistant to other antimalarial agents.

Dosage

Adults: Non-immune patients: Single dose of 3 tab. Semi-immune patients: 60 kg or less, single dose of 2 tab, more than 60 kg, single dose of 3 tab. Children: Whether immune or not, single dose of 1/2 to 2 tab according to age.

Adverse Effects

Skin reactions, blood dyscrasias and liver cell damage.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Sulphonamide hypersensitivity. Precautions: Infants up to two months.

SULFADOXINE: Absorption: Readily absorbed from the GI tract. Half-life elimination: 200 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: 4 hrs. Excretion: Urine. PYRIMETHAMINE: Duration: 2 wks. Absorption: Almost completely absorbed from the GI tract. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: 4 days. Time to peak, plasma: 2-4 hrs. Excretion: Urine.
