Vitamin B12 Plain · Co-enzyme-type vitamin B12

Indications

Peripheral neuropathies. Megaloblastic anaemia due to vit B12 deficiency (inj only).

Dosage

ORAL: Adults: 500 mcg 3 times daily. Children: Not recommended. INJECTION: Adults: Peripheral neuropathies: 1 amp by IM or IV inj three times a wk. Megaloblastic anaemia: 1 amp by IM or IV inj three times a wk. After two mth 1 amp in a single administration at 1 to 3 mth intervals for maintenance therapy. Children: Not recommended.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Precautions: Prolonged use is not recommended for patients whose occupation requires handling of mercury or its compounds.

Advice to Patient

Take with or without meals.

Absorption: IM/SC: Quickly absorbed from site of inj. Oral: Irregular absorbed from the distal small intestine. Metabolism: Hepatic. Half-life elimination: Approx. 6 days. Time to peak, plasma: IM: 1 hr. Oral: 3 hrs. IV: 3 mins. Excretion: Urine. Bile.
