Corticosteroid Combinations, Eye · Aminoglycoside/Anti-inflammatory

Indications

Infected inflammatory conditions.

Dosage

Drop: Adults: 1 or 2 drops four to six hourly. During first 24-48 hrs, apply every 1-2 hrs. Children: Not recommended.

Adverse Effects

Loteprednol: Discomfort, itching, dry eye, foreign body sensation, epiphora, corneal defect, conjunctival hyperaemia, instillation site burning, headache.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Contraindications: Loteprednol: Viral, mycobacterial, fungal, amoebic or purulent infections of cornea and conjunctiva. Undiagnosed red eye. Hypersensitivity to other corticosteroids. Precautions: Loteprednol: Prolonged use. Glaucoma. Monitor lOP when used for 10 days or longer, Soft contact lenses; wait minimum, 15 min before inserting.

Interactions

Loteprednol: Ocular hypotensive agents, cycloplegics.

Advice to Patient

Wash hands properly before use. To instill medication into eyes, tilt head back, look upward, instill drops inside lower eyelid. Close eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to inner corner of eye. Contact prescriber if there is eye pain, changes in vision, no improvement or worsening of condition. Avoid touching tip of applicator with eye. Avoid prolonged use. Do not share medication with anyone else.

LOTEPREDNOL: Onset: = 2 hrs. Absorption: Well-absorbed into the eye. Limited systemic absorption. Half-life elimination: 2.8 hrs. TOBRAMYCIN: Duration: 25 mins. Metabolism: Not metabolized. Half-life elimination: Adults: 2-3 hrs. Excretion: Urine.
