Ketotifen, Oral
Bronchodilator & Anti-asthma Preps: Orals/Parenterals · H1 receptor antagonist
Indications
Prophylaxis of bronchial asthma. Allergic conditions.
Dosage
Adults: 1-2 mg twice daily with food. Children: Under 2 yr, not recommended; over 2 yr, 1 mg twice daily with food.
Adverse Effects
Drowsiness, impaired reactions, dry mouth, dizziness. Occasionally, CNS stimulation, wt gain, isolated severe skin reactions. Rarely, cystitis, raised liver enzymes, hepatitis.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended. Precautions: History of epilepsy. Withdraw over 2-4 weeks in asthma patients.
Interactions
Alcohol, CNS depressants, oral hypoglycaemics, antihistamines.
Advice to Patient
Take with meals.

Absorption: Almost completely absorbed from the GI tract. Metabolism: Hepatic (extensive first-pass). Bioavailability: 50%. Half-life elimination: Terminal: 21 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: Oral: 2-4 hrs. Excretion: Urine.
