Isoprenaline
Cardiac Therapy · Sympathomimetic acting only on beta-adrenergic receptors
Indications
Inj: Hypoperfusion syndrome, cardiac arrest, carotid sinus hypersensitivity, Adams-stokes syndrome, ventricular tachycardia and arrhythmias.
Dosage
Adults: Inj: 0.5-5 mcg/min. Rate 30 mcg/min used in advance stage of shock. See literature.
Administration
Administer infusion through a large vein and monitor patient for signs of extravasation. For IV inf, add 1 mg to 50 mL of compatible IV fluid and administer at 0-60 mL/hr (0-20 mcg/min). Compatibility: NS/D5W, Hartmann's. Stability: Refrigerate. Do not freeze. Protect from light and air. Discard any diluted fluid not used within 24 hrs of preparation. Do not use solution if pinkish to brown in colour or contains precipitate.
Adverse Effects
Flushing, sweating, mild tremor, nervousness, headache, tachycardia.
Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)
Contraindications: Pre-existing cardiac arrhythmias associated with tachycardia, tachycardia caused by digitalis intoxication. Precautions: Coronary insufficiency, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, patient sensitive to sympathomimetic amines.
