Indications

Iron-deficiency anaemia.

Dosage

Inj: Adults: 1.5 mg/kg IM as single daily dose; max 100 mg per inj. Children: Under 3 kg, not recommended; over 3 kg, same as adult. Tab: Adults: 2 to 3 tab daily.

Adverse Effects

Cardiac arrhythmias.

Risk Factor (Pregnancy/Lactation)

Pregnancy: Risk cannot be ruled out. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Contraindications: Serious liver or kidney damage; ineffective in aplastic or hypoplastic anaemias and acute leukaemia.

Pharmacokinetics

IRON-SORBITOL-CITRIC ACID COMPLEX: Absorption: Rapidly absorbed from the injection site. Absorption may be decreased when given with food, particularly cereals, dietary fibre, coffee, tea, eggs and milk. FOLIC ACID: Absorption: Oral: Rapidly absorbed from the small intestine. Metabolism: Hepatic. Time to peak: 1 hr. Excretion: Urine, faeces.
